Kathy rushed into the weekly Addictions Victorious (AV) meeting a few minutes late. She was out of breath as she quickly found her seat. The meeting began with everyone introducing themselves and why they were there. When it was Kathy’s turn, she could barely contain herself as she poured out that the reason she hadn’t been to a meeting since Christmas was that she hadn’t been doing well. In fact, Kathy had recently tried to commit suicide with an overdose of pills. She was taken to the hospital and released a few days later.
When Kathy awoke that morning, she remembered that Fellowship House would be having their regular Tuesday noontime AV meeting. She called a friend for a ride. When they arrived, she approached the building, still feeling vaguely hopeless and discouraged. Kathy noticed that the door was left unlatched for those who wanted to just drop into the meeting, without having to pass through the lobby. Instantly her spirits were lifted. She knew that on the other side of that door were people who would understand. On the other side of that door were people she could relate to. On the other side of that door were people who would not judge her. She knew that the group that gathers at Fellowship House in Jesus’ name was there to help. On the other side of that door was hope!
